I am a student of English, and I want to write an article about "The Downpouring Storm." It is similar to the Chinese version but tailored for the audience's cultural background.
The Storm in the Clouds
In China, when it rains hard and heavy, it is called "The Storm in the Clouds" (在天空中大 downpour ). The rain can cause a huge downpour, such as one that covers entire cities in just minutes. For example, during the rainy season, the city of Beijing can get a inches of rain, while its neighbors might lose half their population.
This is different from how I experience it here. Here, it is only a few hours after the rain stopped. Two sentences: "I will come back six days later" (我在六天后来实习) and "he will keep his phone number on my device." (他会记得我的手机号码存进了他的设备中.)
My Fears
When I received this message, I felt both hope and sadness. I was surprised that my neighbor sent a message about going to a new city. I also wondered why we were so close, yet so different in everything else.
However, I quickly realized that even though I loved him and shared his life with him, the reality was different.
I had no idea how he would go about moving to this new city. It wasn't just about work; it was about family, home, and our friendship. My brain tried to focus on other things like house fires or family deaths that seemed so real.
But I didn’t notice anything wrong yet. He was quiet in his response, but then he said "I will come back six days later" again, which made me feel a little better.
The Distance Between Us
We were close because we shared our lives with him and I. But as neighbors, even the closest people can get apart over time. One thing that really upset me was his phone number changing every day. It felt like a secret, but now I knew it wasn’t a secret at all—it was just changing to keep my records secure.
The Road Ahead
One morning, I decided to go back home. There I found myself alone in a small town, not knowing what to do with him. He didn’t call me "I," and he didn’t send any messages telling me where he was going.
But I knew that wasn’t the case. He would come back six days later. The moment he told me, I could feel the weight of his plans on my shoulders. I thought about how much we had lost together, and how far apart we were from each other.
The Future
As time went on, I realized that our relationship wasn’t just about us talking. It was about being who we wanted to be and living a life we agreed with him. We didn’t change because of each other; we changed because he did.
This had been the same story as when my neighbor sent me messages about moving away. In both cases, it felt like the responsibility I held on that day meant more than anything else.
The End
The storm in the clouds will never be over, but the memories and feelings of this life will stay with me forever.
