A Christmas of Traditions and Memory
The Chinese holiday of New Year, also known as Holi or Yui, is one of the most significant celebrations in China. It's not just a time for wrapping up old year but also a place where people remember their families together, exchange gifts, and enjoy delicious meals filled with joy.
During the holidays, we gather around the fire to make hotpot soup, listen to the soft sounds of bells and drumsticks, and watch ancient Chinese carols like "The Three Little Pigs." These moments create a warm and comforting atmosphere. The smell of fresh food, laughter from neighbors, and the rhythmic hum of clocks all contribute to a sense of belonging.
One day, I decided to explore my neighbor's backyard with a toy dinosaur. As the sun rose, the grass grew tall, and colorful flowers started to bloom. Birds chirped, and children played on the swings. I couldn't help but feel content because everyone was having fun together—both at home and at my neighbor's.
As winter approached, the snow began to accumulate under our feet. The ground felt so soft, and the weight of winter passed like a gentle breeze. It wasn't until one night that I realized how much joy could be found in a simple act of kindness: throwing an egg across a table with my brother. We laughed forever, feeling each other out—just like Santa's elves who deliver gifts to every house in the world.
The holidays are all about magic and laughter. Whether it's wrapping presents, exchanging cards, or enjoying a meal with family, they all create moments of happiness that last a lifetime. I know now that a New Year is not just a time for us to celebrate but also a place where we keep our families connected in the most profound way.
As winter turned into spring, I remembered my childhood home. The air was fresh, the children played with laughter, and the neighborhood felt alive with joy. That's what Christmas should be—a day of warmth, memories made together, and love shared forever.
